FREE Mental Health First Aid Training

FREE Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches about recovery and resiliency - the belief that individuals experiencing these challenges can and do get better, and use

their strengths to stay well. Most of us would know how to help if we saw someone having a heart attack - we would start CPR or call 9-1-1. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, MHFA teaches you how to assist and support others who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. This course is for everyone - not clinical or prior experience required.

What it covers:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges

  • How to interact with a person in crisis

  • How to connect a person with help

  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use, and self-care

The opportunity to practice through role playing, scenarios, and activities makes it easier to apply these skills in a real-life situation.

REMAINING TRAININGS THIS YEAR

  • December 12th & 13th 12pm-4pm

This is an 8 hour training. Participants must attend both sessions to receive full training.

To sign up for a training, please contact Maria Scarlett at 860-638-4942 or maria.scarlett@middletownct.gov

Full flyer available here.

Home Smoke Alarm and Fire Safety Survey

Help Save Lives! Home Smoke Alarm and Fire Safety Survey

Middletown families, your participation in the Fire Marshal's survey could be lifesaving. With half of home fire fatalities occurring during nighttime hours and working smoke alarms reducing the risk of death by 55%, it's crucial that we assess our community's fire safety preparedness. The City of Middletown Fire Marshal's Office is reaching out to gather vital information about our residents' needs. By taking a few moments to complete this brief survey, you're not just sharing information – you're actively contributing to the safety of your loved ones and neighbors. Your input will help our fire safety experts develop targeted strategies to protect our community. Don't wait – your response could make the difference in creating a safer Middletown for all.

Register now for these free, family-friendly webinars to ensure you have the tools and information needed to help your child thrive both in and out of the classroom. More information here: Supporting Your Child's Health and Well-being During the School Year - Virtual House Calls for Families.pdf

Post-COVID Needs Assessment - From Middletown Youth Services Bureau

Post-COVID Needs Assessment - From Middletown Youth Services Bureau

The City of Middletown and its Youth Services Bureau is conducting a study to learn about ways to better serve youth in Middletown and provide needed support and connection following the disruption of the COVID years.

We are recruiting youth, parents, educators, and youth serving professionals in Middletown for 1 on 1 zoom interviews that cover topics such as leadership, connection with the community, where/how support is found, and other topics about what your life is like in a “post-pandemic world.”

Participation is voluntary, more details and ways to spread the word can be found HERE.
