Middletown Public Schools proudly operates its own Food and Nutrition Services department, instead of contracting with an outside food service company. This internal structure allows for us to be responsive to the needs of our students and families.

Summer Meals

Free Summer Meals for All Children 18 and Under – Middletown Public Schools

The Middletown Public Schools’ Office of Food, Nutrition and Wellness Services is proud to once again offer free summer meals to all children 18 and under at several open meal sites across the city!

Important Reminder:
In accordance with State and Federal regulations, meals must be consumed on-site by the children receiving them. This is not a grab-and-go service. Each meal site will have tables and an attendant to support children during meal times. Please help us maintain this program by following these guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation!

Open Summer Meal Sites and Hours
All locations serve lunch from 11:15 AM – 1:15 PM unless otherwise noted.

  • Beman Middle School
    1 Wilderman’s Way | 6/23 – 8/15

    • Meal Table will be set up in the front of the school building, under the canopy

  • Macdonough Elementary School
    66 Spring Street | 6/30 – 8/4

    • Meal table will be set up on Pease Street Entrance

  • Veterans Park
    7/7 – 8/8

    • Meals will be available near the Pool Side Entrance

  • Pat Kidney Field
    240 Farm Hill Rd | 7/7 – 8/8

    • Meals will be available near the restroom entrance

  • Butternut Park
    7/7 – 8/8

    • Meals will be available by the Pavilion

  • Police Activity League (PAL)
    646 Main Street
    Breakfast: 8:30 – 9:30 AM | Lunch: 11:15 AM – 1:15 PM | 7/7 – 8/8

    • Meals will be available inside the PAL facility

  • Middletown High School

    200 La Rosa Lane

    Lunch: 11:15 AM – 1:15 PM | 7/25 – 8/15

    • Meals will be available outside of the Cafeteria by the Vo-Ag Entrance

Look for signage at each location to guide you to the meal service area.

In addition to the public sites listed above, meals will also be provided at the following program-based sites (not open to the public):

  • Middletown Parks & Recreation Programs at the Rec Center

  • Camp Crystal Lake, Camp Spencer, Camp Moody, and Bielefield Summer Camp

  • Wesley Elementary School (for 21C Program participants – July to early August)

  • YMCA Summer Camps

  • Traverse Square Center Summer Programming

Free Breakfast & Free Lunch

Middletown Public Schools is proud to provide all its students (K-12) with FREE breakfast and FREE lunch during the 2024-2025 school year.

We are happy to provide free meals for all students through participation in the Community Eligibility Provisions (CEP) of the National School Lunch Program for school year 2024-2025. We look forward to serving nutritious and delicious meals to all of our students throughout the upcoming school year. Learn more about the CEP here.

Healthy Foods in Schools and Wellness Policy

Connecticut Nutrition Standards: The Connecticut State Department of Education requires all School Food Authorities (SFA's) to adhere to strict nutrition guidelines that exceed the requirements of the USDA. Middletown Public Schools is proud to meet or exceed all of the Connecticut Nutrition Standards which can be found here.

Middletown Public Schools partners with the Amazing Grace Cost Free Community Market to provide free food for students for the weekend:

What do we offer?:

All free food offered in our weekend food program is reviewed by our Director of Food, Nutrition and Wellness Services as well as a team of dietetic students to ensure items offered meet the Connecticut Nutrition Standards.

Items include protein offerings, fresh produce and some snack foods for students to enjoy

How can students participate in the program?

Elementary Schools: Please contact your school's main office for information on how your student can receive free food for the weekend. Pre-bagged free food is distributed on the last day of the school week throughout the school year.

Beman Middle School: Pre-bagged free food is distributed on the last day of the school week throughout the school year during dismissal

Middletown High: The "Snack Shack" is open in the cafeteria on Fridays during all lunch waves for students to select free food items.
