Kindergarten Entry Age and Middletown’s Kindergarten Preparatory Academy (KPA)
The kindergarten entry age recently changed in Connecticut. Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2024 to enter kindergarten in the 2024-2025 school year. If you have a child who will turn 5 years old on or between September 2, 2024 and December 31, 2024, please visit our website to learn more about our full-day, free kindergarten readiness program: Kindergarten Preparatory Academy (KPA) – a program specifically for students whose 5th birthday will be on or between September 2, 2024 and December 31, 2024.

Preschool Lottery Applications
Middletown Public Schools invites you to apply for one of four School Day Preschool Classrooms available for the 2024-2025 school year. These School Day Classrooms are located at Bielefield Elementary School, Spencer Elementary School, and Snow Elementary School. These will be in addition to the current part-day classrooms at Snow.
The School Day preschool programs are held 5 days a week for 6.75 hours per day and follow the Middletown Public Schools calendar. All Middletown residents have access to the programs for four year olds (born in 2020) via the lottery process for the 2024/2025 school year. As we have more children enter into the lottery than have available spots, acceptance is not guaranteed. Families not accepted through the lottery may be placed on a waiting list.
Each family's preschool fee will be determined based on the Office of Early Childhood’s Sliding Fee scale. Transportation will be available based on income.
The lottery will close on March 31, 2024 and late applications will not be accepted. Families will be notified of lottery results the week of April 15, 2024. Families accepted into the program will be expected to complete registration by May 3, 2024 in order to reserve the spot.
